FAQ

To learn more about renting our games, we have compiled some questions you may have about the program. If you have further questions please contact us at [email protected]. Rejuvenate your board game nights, safely & at home, with the help of Hex!

Games available to rent can be browsed in person at the cafe and will be marked with a yellow, blue, or red sticker.  All of the rentable games are part of the cafe’s main game library so availability will vary.  If the specific game you wish to rent is unavailable, we will be happy to give you recommendations on great alternatives!

Not all board games are equal, and that is reflected in the cost of the rental. We use three tiers to assign prices to our games:

$10 Tier (Yellow dot): The low price doesn’t mean these games are less fun, they are just the smallest games from Hexagon’s collection! These are card games and other short and sweet options.

$15 Tier (Blue dot): The “average” board game is included in this tier, yet don’t confuse your grandma’s game closet with this category! These are fun and exciting games that offer a bit more than just a warm-up card game.

$20 Tier (Red dot): This category includes the heavy hitters of the board game world – those that have more complex components and a higher retail price point. Because these games can often be expensive to buy, renting is a great option to experience the game while you decide whether to invest in purchasing it or not!

All game rentals are one (1) week. For example, if you rent it on Saturday, you have until the following Saturday by 5 PM to return it. Make sure to play (and replay!) the games for maximum fun.

All the rentable games are part of the cafe’s library so games are available on a first-come, first-served basis only.

We are working towards adding more titles from our library to the rental program.  If there is a game you would like to rent but is currently not included in our rental program, send us an email and we can have it ready in 48 hours.  Keep in mind, you always have the option to play these games in person at the cafe!

Returning games on time is important because we want to give everyone the opportunity to rent the games they want to play. That said, mistakes happen!

If you need to keep a game beyond its due date, please get in touch with us. Games can be renewed for one additional 7-day period for the equivalent of the original rental fee. Rentals can be kept for a maximum of two weeks.

If a game has not been returned after two weeks and we have been unable to get in touch with you, we may consider the game lost and the applicable lost game fee will be charged

We do our best to make sure every game is complete and in good condition before it goes out, but sometimes a missing or damaged component can slip through.

We recommend checking the game’s components as soon as you bring it home. You don’t need to worry about counting every small component, such as victory point tokens, coins, or other spare pieces. However, if you notice that a component that is important to playing the game is missing or damaged, please let us know within 12 hours of receiving the game so that we can help resolve the issue.

Before returning your rental, please take a moment to make sure all of the game’s important components are back in the box. You don’t need to count every small component, such as victory point tokens, coins, or other spare pieces, but please make sure anything essential to playing the game is included.

A quick check before you pack it up helps make sure the game is ready for the next person to enjoy!

Board games aren’t invincible! There are lots of preventative measures you can take to help keep the games safe. We suggest keeping games away from messy situations such as young children, pets, food and spillable drinks. The boxes are often just cardboard, so be careful to avoid crushing them or exposing them to water.

If a game is returned damaged, including excessively dirty, missing or damaged components, we may apply a fee depending on the extent of the damage. Missing or damaged components may be charged at $5 per component. If the damage significantly affects the game’s playability or the game cannot be reasonably repaired, you will be charged the full retail replacement price of the game, plus a $10 service fee.

If a game is lost or is not returned after the maximum rental period, you will be charged the full retail replacement price, plus a $10 service fee.

Ultimately, our goal is to keep the games in good condition so that lots of different households can enjoy them!
