Coffee is something you could probably find in most houses in Alberta. In fact, I’d argue you could find it in most houses across Canada. It is one of the most popular drinks worldwide, after all. Whether it’s a scoop of instant coffee while you’re on the go or a finely crafted cup from an artisan cafe, whether you suggest it as a first date or how you start the day, coffee is always on the edge of our cultural consciousness.

Through our cafe, through our coffee, we’ve aimed to be part of and build up our community at Hexagon, on both Whyte Avenue in Edmonton and Kensington in Calgary. Coffee, Games, Community is our motto. We wanted to have our coffee be a symbol of that community feeling, that cornerstone of culture, and that’s where Rosso Coffee Roasters comes in.

Rosso started in Calgary in 2007, as one cafe started by one person who was passionate about coffee, community, and culture. David Crosby started by opening one cafe in Ramsay, where he could create the coffee culture he desired. Over the past decade, Rosso has continued to grow, making themselves present in the vibrant coffee culture of Calgary, shifting from being one cafe to multiple cafes, and eventually to roasting their own beans.

Rosso continues to hit levels of excellence, always learning and bringing something new to the table while providing education to their community partners. Rosso focuses on connecting and building relationships worldwide with coffee producers, often times visiting to meet them first hand. Beyond the sourcing and roasting of beans, they also host classes on how to craft the perfect cup of coffee and improve one’s latte art becoming a valuable educator for the professional and home barista. Cole, one of the owners and brother to David, won the top place of the Canadian Barista Championships and has been a two times finalist of Worlds. Cole is off to nationals once more!

We didn’t realize when Rosso stepped into our cafe it would be the game-changer it has become. They stepped into our hearts and our mugs, and how could they not? As of last year our Kensington location started carrying Rosso’s coffee, and as of this year, our Edmonton location will as well, with our own branded bags. Next time you’re in, look for a bag of The Longest Road, a homage to our origins and to our own coffee journey.

There are many reasons why Hexagon has partnered with Rosso, but it really brews down to our shared passion for building community and great coffee. We can’t wait to see what happens next.
