Who doesn’t love live music? Whether you’re there specifically to listen or simply enjoying the extra ambiance it provides, a musician performing live adds a sense of authenticity to a venue. Not only that, but Edmonton is home to incredibly talented artists, some who are just starting their careers in the music industry.

Beats and Board Games

YEG Music is an Edmonton startup that seeks to work with and develop local musicians by providing proper venues and equipment for them to meet their goals. Their mission statement is to help artists grow no matter what stage they are at in their careers. Hexagon’s Edmonton location is lucky enough to have talented artists from YEG Music come to perform live music every third Thursday of the month.

Now, you might be curious as to how a board game café functions as a live music venue on those nights. The usual fee to play games is waived in favour of a ticket sale: $13 advance, $15 at the door. And make no mistake, board games are still on the menu, however, our primary focus on these nights is to function as a music venue. Supporting and encouraging local entertainment is an important aspect of building a strong community.

Ticket sales at the door starts at 5:30pm and the show starts at 6:30pm. More information about YEG Music events at Hexagon such as dates, show times, and line-ups can be found on YEG Music’s website and Facebook page. This Thursday, Emily Friesen, Kaeley Wiebe, Tayler Sirant and Tayler Grace are set to sound off at Hexagon Cafe with their own local flair.
